This week we are working on:

  • Getting back into Grade 1 routines! We’ll be sharing what we did over the two week break using the past tense. Je suis allée, j’ai vu, j’ai fait, j’ai joué, j’ai visité…

  • We will be talking about the change of season – bienvenue printemps! Students will be asked to share changes they have observed in their yards and neighbourhoods. 
  • In maths, we have a fun Easter themed math pack with a little of everything. We will be adding and subtracting below twenty and skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s.

This week we are working on:

  • The letter sound ‘Nn‘. We know the words: nouveau/nouvelle, nuage, neige, nuit, nocturne, nez, narval, nature, nourrir, nombres. Idéllo class code: 5F5423
  • We have been working on reading and writing composed sounds – that’s when two or more letters work together to make a single sound. Click the links to hear these sounds: on, in, oi, au/eau, ou, eu.
  • One of our daily routines is calendar. We discuss a variety of topics during this time and practice a lot of our basics. One concept we work on all year is place value. We count the days of the school year and work with a hundreds chart to count and describe numbers. For example, the number 42 is four groups of ten and 2 units.   • Friday we will walk to the Curling Club! Students need a helmet, weather appropriate clothing, and clean athletic shoes (we will bring our indoor shoes with us from school). We plan on using the skills we learned in the gym on the ice. We will not be using brooms. 
  • We will empty our lockers and send everything home for the two week spring break. It is a good time to check the size of your child’s shoes and refresh the emergency clothes for their locker.

  • We continue to discuss our families, human needs and health. Students have been sharing their favourite healthy foods, their favourite physical activities and their hobbies and interests. 
  • We continue to talk about  our responsibilities at home and at school, the important people in our lives and our family traditions.

  • We’ll be discussing the basic needs of humans and our daily routines this week and next. We’ll talk about food and hydration, hygiene, shelter, love and belonging, hobbies and physical activities. 
  • Every day we read, write, speak and solve maths problems in French. Students are starting to speak more and more French – bravo les amis!

February 17th – 20th, 2026

This week we are working on:

  • The letter sound ‘Qq‘. We know lots of words like: question, qui, quand, quatre, quoi, quel, qu’est-ce que, quille. Idéllo class code: 5F5423
  • This month we are having lots of conversations about families, love and caring behaviours, friendship, positive affirmations, and what makes us unique. 
  • In maths, we will continue to learn with a 100 chart. We are looking working with the concept of +1, -1, +10, -10. Numbers 70-99 are particularly challenging to remember in French.
  • We are pushing students to speak as much French as possible while in class. It is important to make an effort to communicate in French even though it is much easier to switch to English. 
  • We are learning two new songs this month: J’aime papa and Je t’aime beaucoup.

February 9th – 13th, 2026

This week we are working on:

  • The letter sound ‘Pp‘. We know lots of words with this sound:, patine, petit, petite, plein, pizza, patate, papa, plumes, peur, printemps, peinture, perdu, poisson et pieuvre, poilu. Idéllo class code: 5F5423
  • In reading we are working on composed sounds, like: ‘ch’, ‘ou’, ‘eau’, ‘oi’.
  • In maths, we are working on solving addition and subtraction facts under 20. Right now we are using our fingers, drawings, and physical counters like tokens, cubes or rocks to help us add and subtract. 
  • The BC Wildlife Park is visiting the school this week for class presentations.
  • Thursday we will mark the 100th day of school! We have a variety of math activities for the day. We do not need students to bring anything special from home for this day. 
  • Friday, the students get a sweet Québecois treat – tire d’érable 
  • Friday we will exchange valentine cards. This activity is optional. Please do not send treats to school.

  • We will continue our big idea of Canadian animals through February. We will also begin talking more about families and what we human animals need to survive. 
  • In maths, we will be moving into addition and subtraction strategies. We are learning and practicing counting on, counting back, doubling, and knowing our friends of ten. We also continue to review place value as we approach the 100th day of school.

  • This week is Unplug and Play! A log sheet was sent home. Help your child complete it and return it to school at the end of the week. Mme Bossio, our school librarian, will be drawing for prizes next week.
