This week we are:

  • Monday is Primary Fun Day! The grade 6 students and teachers have been busy planning a fun day filled with games, challenges, freezies and fun. Students should be wearing sunscreen, a hat and have a water bottle with their name on it. 
  • Tuesday pyjama day & movie afternoon.
  • Preparing the classrooms for summer break! We will be sorting books, organizing materials, cleaning out our book boxes and lockers. We’ll continue to check the lost and found. Expect personal belongings and materials to come home a little bit at a time all week.
  • The folks from the city library will be in our library telling us all about the summer reading program. This year’s theme is Colour Your Summer!
  • Learning updates (report cards) will be available to read online Tuesday afternoon. 
  • We have our year-end assembly and slideshow on Thursday morning.

Homework: We encourage families to create a summer routine that includes a little French reading, writing, and maths.  

  • Students can bring in their completed June homework log sheet (insects) for a prize any time this week.
  • The Summer Reading Club through the public library is a great way to encourage your child to read over the summer.

June 16th – 20th, 2025

This week we are working on:

  • Continuing our learning about our community.
  • In Health we’ll be naming parts of the body. We’ll continue our discussion regarding boundaries, consent and appropriate and inappropriate touch. We encourage students to ask their safe adults any questions or discuss connections they made during our health lessons.  
  • We’ll enjoy the gr.6/7 year-end band concert this Tuesday. 
  • Friday we will walk to Prince Charles Park and enjoy a picnic and play at the park and little pool. Parents are welcome to drop in and join us. We should be at the park between 11:45am and 2:00pm.
    • Students need: swimsuit underneath clothing, towel, clean dry clothes to put on after, sunscreen, hat, water and lunch.

Homework:  10 – 15 minutes of daily French literacy work with an adult.

June 9th – 13th, 2025

This week we are working on:

  • We continue our learning about our community. We are having discussions about the man-made and natural environments in our area and what our responsibilities are as citizens. For example: the rivers and lakes. We would discuss what we know and see in these places, water safety, and how to protect and preserve the health of our waterways. 
  • In Health we’ll be discussing who our safe and trusted adults are. These are the adults we go to when we have questions or need help. We’ll be discussing personal space, appropriate and inappropriate touching, and respecting the words and boundaries of others.
  • In maths, we continue learning with money. At home you can count handfuls of change. So far we have been counting with pennies, nickels and dimes.

Homework: 10 – 15 minutes of daily French literacy work with an adult.

  • This is our last book exchange of the school year. All library materials are due back next week (June 18th) . It is also our last classroom book exchange. Students are encouraged to maintain a daily French literacy routine at home until the end of the school term.

June 2nd – 6th, 2025

This week we are working on:

  • Continuing to learn about our communities and neighbourhoods. 
  • We are starting a unit on money. One of our goals is for students to be able to identify the value of Canadian coins. Counting with coing also give us the opportunity to practice counting by 2s, 5,s and 10s.
  • Our Butterflies may come out of their chrysalides by the end of this week. Students have been keeping an observation journal. 
  • June is safety month! Thank you for signing and returning the Inclusive Sexual Health permission slip. Each week we’ll post our big topics so you can keep the conversation going at home.
    • This week we will be reviewing the choices we can make to keep ourselves safe and healthy. Much of our health curriculum is driven by the sharing of student’s ideas and their questions. We expect to talk about: sun protection, seat belts, life jackets, helmets, dressing for the weather, getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, eating healthy foods, washing our hands, brushing our teeth, giving and receiving love from our families, being kind with our friends, etc. 
  • Friday is the school Talent Show.

May 26th – 30th, 2025

  • Lloyd George’s “Hats Off to Jude” walk is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28th, at 8:45 AM. Students will walk to South Kamloops Secondary School, where they will be welcomed by former Lloyd George students and SKSS administration for this special event.  Students are encouraged to wear their favourite hat.

This week we are working on:

  • Continuing to learn with the story Le rat des villes et le rat des champs. 
  • In maths, we are working on measurement. We start with non standard units and estimation. We measure with our hands, feet, paper clips, markers etc.  Check out some of the book selections below to explore concepts of measurement in French. 
  • We expect our caterpillars to reach the chrysalis phase this week.

 This week we are working on:

  • This week and next we will be learning with the fable – Town Mouse, Country Mouse. Our version is called Le rat des villes et le rat des champs. 
  • We will also discuss our own city and neighbourhoods and the many communities we belong to. We’ll be discussing the difference between an urban setting and a rural one.
  • In maths, we will be looking at non-standard units of measurement. For example, our feet, hands, a crayola marker or a paper clip.
  • We have been discussing different jobs we know about in the community. Does your child know what you do?

This week we are working on:

  • This week we are moving on to a new story – The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The version we read in French is called Les trois chèvres. The characters in our version are sisters instead of brothers giving us lots of practice reading all the feminine adjectives that are spelt and read differently (petit/petite and gros/grosse). 
  • We continue to practice solving addition and subtraction problems using number lines, 100s charts, ten frames and physical counters. 
  • We are learning about communities in social studies. We are talking about the neighbourhoods we live in, our city and surrounding area. Students enjoy discussing all the places they visit.

This week we are working on:

  • We are finishing up our learning with The Three Little Pigs. Students will come home with their own re-written story this week. This was a sustained writing task that challenged students to organize their ideas and write them down independently over multiple days. 
  • We will be reading some fun twists on the story as well – click the links below if you’d like to listen at home. 
  • In maths, we work with ten frames and the concept of subitizing. Ten frames help us understand place value (ones, tens, hundreds). 
  • Friday we walk to the Paramount theatre downtown to watch La légende du papillon.

This week we are working on:

  • We continue our learning with the story of The Three Little Pigs. We read many different versions of the story last week and discussed characters, setting and plot. We’ll be acting the story out this week working on oral language. We’ll be sequencing the story and re-writing it with a variety of different endings.
  • In maths, we continue to work on addition and subtraction strategies below 20.

This week we are working on:

  • We are reading The Three Little Pigs – Les trois petits cochons. We will be learning about characters, setting and plot. We will be learning with this story over the next two weeks. We will be reading, comparing different versions, re-telling, acting out, and re-writing this story. 
  • In maths, we continue to use counters, ten frames and number lines to help solve addition and subtraction problems. 
  • We will have our class photo taken Thursday the 24th.
